Start a sanctuary for domestic violence victims in public and social housing high rise
The issue
In memory of Jayda Allen Bonner, whose life was tragically cut short by domestic

violence, we seek to create a sanctuary within public and social housing communities for victims finding a safe haven. This initiative is not just a dream but a crucial step towards ensuring safety, refuge, and hope for those affected by domestic violence.
Daily, thousands face unspeakable abuse within their homes and are left without a place to escape. For those living in public and social housing, options are even more limited. We propose the establishment of digital quiet places—a safe space online where victims can access support, counseling, and resources discreetly. Furthermore, we aim to launch an ideas competition to generate innovative and sustainable ideas that also include digital memory spaces, a cinema room, and even a cinema in the city where victims, survivors, and community members can find solace and community.
According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men have experienced severe intimate partner physical violence, with underreporting being a significant issue due to fear and lack of resources. Victims in public and social housing often lack privacy, financial means, or access to traditional support systems which makes experiencing abuse feel like imprisonment.
The creation of digital sanctuaries offers an anonymous and safe access point for those unable to leave their situation immediately. Imagine a platform where victims can log in securely and seek advice, support, and a community that understands their plight. Complementing this, a tangible “memory space” and cinema room provides a physical escape, where art and expression can help heal psychological wounds.
By fostering partnerships with local municipalities and tech innovators, we can make these proposed ideas a reality. We call on city officials, housing associations, and digital experts to join us in this cause. With collective action, we can create a network of safe havens across the city, beginning a national movement that redefines safety and community for victims of domestic abuse.
Please sign this petition to support the establishment of digital quiet places and communal spaces in public housing to honor Jayda, and to affirmatively step up for every person who might feel trapped and helpless. Together, we can make our communities not just a place to live, but a place to thrive free from violence and fear.
