We are at our science fair today, where our journey asking Starbucks to make a better cup began over two years ago. We have learned so much in the past few months and we are proud to say that young girls can make a difference in their communities and in the world! We strongly encourage you, wherever you are, whatever your age, to take action and stand up for what you believe in. We would like to underline the important role played by several environmental organizations in the wider campaign asking for a better cup, including Stand Earth, Greenpeace USA and more. Together, we have gathered the support of over 1,000,000 people from around the world. Now that’s a clear demonstration of people power! We would like to congratulate Starbucks for being a leader and investing 10 million USD into the “NextGen Cup.” This means the greatest minds from around the world will be competing to make a fully recyclable and compostable cup which we really hope will get to market within the next three years. We also hope they will do everything in their power to encourage the use of reusable cups in their coffee shops. We’ll be following up. The medal ceremony will be at noon. Our science fair, where it all began, seems like the right moment to declare victory on our petition.
