We’ve made it to Seattle and we have so much to tell you! We got off the plane yesterday to the very exciting news that Starbucks wanted to meet us. We went to the Starbucks headquarters and we met with Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson and the Global Social Impact team to deliver this petition. Starbucks announced a $10million initiative to develop recyclable, compostable cups over the next three years — this is such good news! We’re so excited to see Starbucks taking this important step. We also spoke about what more can be done, like making sure people bring their own reusable cup when they buy a coffee. Reusable cups are the best solution, but currently less than 2% of Starbucks hot drinks are served in them. To help fix this, WE WANT YOUR IDEAS :-)! How do you think Starbucks can encourage their customers to bring their own cup to cut down on single-use cups? Please post your ideas in the comments below this update, and we’ll share them with Starbucks! We will be meeting with the coalition of environmental organizations this morning, before going to Starbucks’ shareholder meeting. Their role campaigning to reduce plastic waste and pushing for a better cup has been - and is - so important. Together we have collected over 884,000 signatures! We look forward to continue working with the them to #BreakFreeFromPlastic and hopefully reduce the waste accumulating in landfills and in the ocean. Thank you all for your support, none of this would have been possible without you taking action and asking Starbucks for a #BetterCup. Mya & Eve
