This week The Psychiatric Times published an article entitled "ECT: Dangerous on Either Side of the Pond" written by Professor John Read, former professor, Sarah Hancock, and former pediatrician, Sue Cunliffe. In it they detailed 14 patient safety concerns demanding attention including a 34% increase in the number of American Hospitals providing ECT, Medicare reimbursement without proper documentation, and a recently published audit revealing massive deficits in UK's regulatory mesurares required to ensure ECT patient safety.
