Name related issues are a big concern in India!

 

 

India is a diverse country with different traditions and way of naming the person.

Due to this there is no standard in how people have their names. Some have just single name, many have one or more initials, some have many parts in their name.

Also due to lack of coordination and various standard between different government departments which issues identity proof there is even more issues. 

Birth certificate in my state allowed initials at the front but when we completed 10th our initials were moved to the back of the name.

When PAN was issued the Initials were expanded in the database but initials were allowed in Printed PAN.

Aadhaar allowed initials again whereas passport did not.

Voter ID allowed initials but let us accept it, until recently majority of people had various issues due to typos in voter id.

These are a few places and I am not even diving into other documents like marriage certificate, bank accounts, ration card etc.

It is also difficult to correct all of these in one go and common people face so many issues due to this.

Recently we have seen issue with Aadhaar PAN linking which was fixed by a temporary solution, but this is not permanent solution. People still have different names in different records.

Another issue recently we saw was when Mutual Fund Transactions failed due to differences in name in Folio and kyc documents.

I am requesting the government to come up with a permanent solution for standardizing names in all important documents which are needed for proof of identity and address or else in future there will me more issues in digitizing the records and people will end up having multiple identities.
