We’ll be stepping back for a while due to personal circumstances. We wanted to update before we did so;
We’re still waiting on 12 trusts to respond to FOI requests. 60 trusts have advised they retain, 48 trusts have advised they don’t. 2 trusts have advised they have hospitals that do both. We figure that’s 56% of trusts that retain and 44% that don’t.
We’ve been updated that some in our trust are holding meetings to establish if they can begin retaining views. We’re extremely grateful to those who are exploring this.
One charity has engaged with us. We understand they support us and what we are trying to achieve. Unfortunately, they won’t be actively participating or promoting this though.
We’re still a bit confused as to why this hasn’t attracted more attention if we’re honest. We can only speculate as to why this issue hasn’t openly surfaced previously. We’ve been surprised each trust has been operating autonomously for so long and there has been no awareness or co-ordination of national practice.
We feel the issue of majority practice we have identified is significant; “The standard of care provided by a competent ultrasound practitioner is that which the majority of similar individuals would provide and/or which a significant body of similar individuals would provide in similar and contemporaneous circumstances. Images that accompany an ultrasound examination carried out by a competent ultrasound practitioner evidence the assumption that the necessary standard of care has been delivered”. (Society of Radiographers).
The 56% / 44% divide we have identified is important for this reason.
