Stand Up For Weston Youth Before It's Too Late

Stand Up For Weston Youth Before It's Too Late
The Issue
In the York-South Weston neighbourhood, a child's zip code can determine their destiny.
Kids growing up here face real pressures that most people never see: poverty, gang recruitment starting as young as 10, overcrowded homes with nowhere safe to go after school, and a nagging sense that the city — the country — has written them off. For too many young people in this community, the path from childhood to crisis isn't a matter of bad choices. It's a matter of having no choices at all.
That's what makes the MLSE LaunchPad Weston Project so urgent and why we need you to sign this petition right now.
MLSE Foundation, backed by the Toronto Maple Leafs, Raptors, Toronto FC, and Argonauts, is transforming the aging Weston Lions Arena into a free, world-class youth facility for youth aged 6 to 29. Free programming, free food, free mentorship, free mental health counselling. This is not a program for elite athletes. Not a paid membership club. Completely free. For the kid whose family earns $30,000 a year. For the teenager who just arrived from another country and doesn't know anyone. For the 25-year-old trying to find their first real job.
This isn't a theory. The downtown MLSE LaunchPad has already changed lives — 90,000 young people served since 2017, 1,000+ hours of free mental health counselling every year, 40,000+ free meals, and 100+ youth employed annually. 73% of members come from households earning less than $37,000 a year. The model works.
Now imagine that lifeline, right here in Weston.
A safe place to go instead of the street. A mentor instead of a gang recruiter. A meal when there isn't one at home. A coach who believes in you when no one else does. This is what we're fighting for.
The project has already been approved by Toronto City Council — unanimously. The community showed up in massive numbers to support it, with over 5,000 people engaged in consultation. And yet a small group of vocal opponents are doing everything they can to derail it at the last moment.
We cannot let that happen.
These aren't nameless statistics. These are real kids in our community. Kids who deserve the same shot at life as children in wealthier neighbourhoods. Kids who are watching to see if this city actually values them.
Please sign this petition. Share it. And let's show Weston's youth that we see them and we're in their corner.
