Stand Up for Safety- Support Councilmember Whitburn's effort for a Safer Intersection

Stand Up for Safety- Support Councilmember Whitburn's effort for a Safer Intersection
The Issue
Dear Neighbors,
I’m reaching out today about an issue we all know needs attention: the intersection of Park Boulevard, El Cajon Boulevard, and Normal Street.
This intersection sits at the heart of our community, connecting homes, small businesses, and key transit corridors. But it's also a daily challenge for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers alike. Whether you're crossing the street on foot, biking through, or simply trying to turn safely in a car, you’ve likely experienced how dangerous and confusing this area can be.
Our office is launching this petition to demonstrate just how many of us care about making this intersection safer. When we advocate to the City's Transportation Department, SANDAG, or the State of California for funding and action, we need to show that this isn’t just a policy priority from City Hall: it’s a demand from the community.
As your council office, we help shape policy and push for change, but the most successful efforts are always backed by the strength and voices of the community. When residents stand with us, we’re far more likely to get results.
This petition is your opportunity to do just that: to make your voice heard and be part of the movement to fix this intersection. Together, we can show that this is a priority worth investing in.
I want to thank our local planning and community groups for being incredible partners in this effort.
Please sign the petition and share it with your friends and neighbors. Let’s work together to create a safer, more connected, and more livable community.
Yours in service,
Stephen Whitburn
San Diego City Councilmember, District 3
Next Steps:
Our office is requesting a new study to evaluate comprehensive design changes for the intersection.
We will also request an evaluation of the plausibility of a quick-build roundabout as a potential solution to improve flow and safety. We also welcome community input and ideas.
