Dear ChiArts Students, Families, and Staff,
The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) Board of Education has unanimously directed the District to gather additional community feedback to help preserve the conservatory model at ChiArts and explore financial alternatives that support its long-term sustainability.
Your input is critical. The feedback collected through this survey will directly inform the final recommendation to the CEO.
The survey contains five important questions:
What are the most important elements of the Conservatory that must be prioritized?
Which aspects could evolve or change to strengthen the program for future generations?
What ideas or partnerships could help ensure the Conservatory remains strong and financially sustainable in the long term?
Who else needs to be part of this conversation?
How can CPS continue to communicate and engage with your community as planning continues?
We urge you to answer these questions as we have since learning that ChiArts, and especially the Conservatory, was in peril:
Keep ChiArts’ full conservatory model intact, including all five arts conservatories, integrated credit-bearing coursework, and a minimum of 15 hours per week of dedicated arts instruction.
Protect and retain ChiArts’ professional teaching artists, the working professionals who make ChiArts what it is, by creating pathways that allow them to continue teaching and inspiring the next generation.
Include families, students, and educators in all decisions about ChiArts’ future, ensuring transparency, collaboration, and genuine community input.
Provide sustainable funding to support the resources, materials, and staff needed to maintain ChiArts’ excellence, and integrate a Friends of ChiArts into this long-term fiscal plan.
Affirm that the arts are the heartbeat of academic excellence, where creativity, discipline, and intellect meet. A truly equitable education system gives every student access to that transformative power.
