Speaking as individuals personally affected by the proposed policy of daily-long use of Yondr Pouches, we must express our serious concerns! We understand the goal of minimizing digital distractions is commendable, but the cost is too great. Our safety, our mental well-being, and our sense of community are all at risk.

For a moment, consider the situation many found themselves in in 2018. Amid the fear and chaos of the Parkland shooting, students used their mobile phones not as digital distractions, but as lifesaving tools. Fast, reliable communication was crucial, with texts being sent out to alert friends, notify loved ones, and coordinate safety measures. 

Apart from emergency scenarios, we shouldn't underestimate the vital role that our phones play in maintaining our mental well-being. Connection is the bedrock of a healthy community, as we discovered and stood firm during the recent fires that tested our school's unity. In these trying times, rather than severing the lines of communication, we should be reinforcing them.

Let's stand united against measures that might compromise our safety, our wellbeing, and our sense of community in schools. We reject this extreme policy and advocate for a more balanced approach in reducing digital distractions without infringing the importance of these communication tools.
