This petition is started because of the new and 'improved' COPPA 2.0 law in the USA. COPPA (The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998) is a federal law that imposes specific requirements on operators of websites and online services to protect the privacy of children under 13. This means that if a video is set to 'made for kids' by a creator (this option is mainly aimed at Youtube), children under 13 will not be able to comment on the video, the video won't be recommended and advertisements won't be directed at the child's algorithm, and children will be switched to Youtube Kids(for Youtube). COPPA 2.0 is planning to keep all of these rules, yet change that age to anyone under 17. This will most likely lead to creators leaving the platform as they will not earn anything from the lack of advertisements and their videos won't be recommended.
