EXO-CBX, also known as CBX, is a subunit of the popular South Korean boy group EXO. The subunit consists of three members: Chen (Kim Jong-dae), Baekhyun (Byun Baek-hyun), and Xiumin (Kim Min-seok). They debuted as a subunit in 2016 under SM Entertainment.

EXO-CBX was formed to showcase a different side of EXO's music and talents. The subunit's name is an abbreviation of the members' stage names, Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin. Each member brings their unique strengths to the group, contributing to their overall sound and style.

CBX's musical style encompasses various genres, including pop, R&B, funk, and soul. They have released several successful albums and singles, with their debut extended play (EP) titled "Hey Mama!" receiving positive reviews and commercial success. Their music often highlights their strong vocal abilities and harmonies, while their performances showcase their energetic and dynamic stage presence.

All three members have demonstrated their artistic growth and versatility as soloists, receiving acclaim for their vocal abilities and musical expressions. Their success as individuals has not only contributed to their own careers but has also added to the overall recognition and influence of EXO as a group. Each member's unique musical style and artistic pursuits have allowed them to explore and showcase their individual talents, further solidifying their positions as accomplished solo artists within the K-pop industry.

On June 1st 2023, it was reported that Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin officially filed a lawsuit to terminate their exclusive contract against their management company, SM Entertainment on grounds of inequity in distribution and clarification of profits and lack of transparency in the exclusive contracts signed between them and the agency.

It is notable to point out that this is not the first time SM Entertainment has been sued under similar grounds of shady transparency in the handlings of their contract terms. Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin finally decided to take action after more than 10 years working under the company, citing that it took them a great deal of courage and careful considerations of all circumstances before making the decision to terminate their exclusive contract.

At the moment, both sides have released counter statements with SM Entertainment clearly derailing from the main issues of inequity and lack of transparency that Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin clearly outlined in their legal statement. This could be the start of a long, arduous legal battle and it is more important than ever for the public to realize that they must not be misguided by the agency's media play into diverting their attention away from the labor and human rights issue at hand.

The issues that Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin are fighting for might very well affect the rest of the artists under SM Entertainment. Despite being required to implement changes recommended by the FTC (Fair Trade Commission) back in 2011 to reduce the length of exclusive contracts for its artists from the previously common 13 years to 7 years, SM Entertainment toyed with the guidelines by including conditional terms that ended up lengthening the duration of the exclusive contract for up to 12 years.

This was unacceptable then, and it is certainly unacceptable now.

Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin, along with the rest of the EXO members and all SM Entertainment artists, deserve clearer provisions regarding profit sharing, intellectual property rights, schedules, and promotional activities.

We call for attention and action from the public to recognise, stand and demand for Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin's labor rights to contract transparency and equitability in profits distribution and clarification. This fight is not only for themselves, but also for all artists under SM Entertainment who were also trapped under similar unfair terms in their contract under the agency.
