STACY’S LAW — IMPORTANT PETITION UPDATE
Another significant step forward in the push for GPS monitoring in Scotland.
On 13 October 2026, Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary Neil Gray lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament seeking approval of new electronic monitoring regulations.
This follows First Minister John Swinney’s commitment in September to bring forward regulations that would allow GPS monitoring of people on bail, including those suspected of domestic abuse.
This is progress. We are now seeing steps being taken towards making GPS monitoring a reality.
However, there are still important questions that need answering:
Will the person at risk receive an immediate alert if an exclusion zone is breached?
Will Police Scotland receive real-time alerts?
How quickly will action be taken following a breach?
Which high-risk domestic abuse cases will qualify?
When will the pilot begin, and when will it be rolled out across Scotland?
When I started the Stacy’s Law petition following Stacy’s death, I wanted to push for changes that could help prevent another person and their family experiencing such a devastating loss.
I have continued to press for the person at risk to receive an alert too, including when I questioned First Minister John Swinney directly on BBC Radio Scotland.
GPS monitoring must be about more than tracking someone's movements. It must provide meaningful protection for the person at risk.
The regulations still need parliamentary approval, and we need to know exactly what protections they will provide.
Stacy should be alive.
We are making progress, but there is still work to be done. I will continue asking questions and pushing for answers.
Please KEEP SIGNING AND SHARING the petition. Every signature and every share helps us keep the pressure on.
For Stacy, for her family, and for every person at risk who deserves greater protection.
