Fantastic news that in under two months our campaign has gained 2,000 plus signatures. Keep sharing to businesses, neighbours, OAPs and students. All of whom would benefit if we became Zone 6. I noticed plans this week for the disused phone exchange to be transformed into flats in Staines. Ashford also has plans for redevelopment of certain areas for housing. Now, whether it happens or not is a different story, there is clearly a call for more housing in the borough. http://www.getsurrey.co.uk/news/surrey-news/plans-transform-disused-phone-exchange-8037538 We are on the edge of London, squeezed into the M25 boundaries. With all this redevelopment comes the need for better transport systems. It was almost impossible for commuters to get home this week on South West Trains with disruptions happening due to a fault at Richmond & Barnes. TFL, SWT and the Department of Transport need to get with the times and realise how many of us use their services. Our area needs to be classed as Zone 6 to benefit from better services and cheaper fares. Planned price hikes in January mean that our fares will increase further, yet we are seeing no benefits or improvements. There are rumours of a possible move to bring us into Zone 7. Having only Feltham on the Reading/Windsor Line in Zone 6 is not acceptable and the whole of the West side of the zone boundaries needs expanding to include our commuter towns. Sunbury, Shepperton, Woking, Ashford, Staines are all towns which should be gradually included into Zone 6. Local businesses would sees benefits of more customers, OAPs could travel into town without having to pay an absolute fortune for a day travel card and commuters would have travel cards cut by approximately £40 per month. Please keep sharing this petition and once I have spoken to more people 'in the know' I shall update further!
