This weekend is the State Indoor Winter Games at Bowling Green State University, and it will be second time that BGSU has hosted the games and the first since the COVID-19 pandemic. They will still Basketball (team and skills competitions), cheerleading, and swimming. I wish the best of luck to the athletes competing this weekend at BGSU. Jeff Vermilion told me that the Maximum Effort Rule will not take place this year in the swimming events. Jeff will be retiring in the Summer, and wish him the best in his retirement. Despite the 7 year contract with SOOH and BGSU; there is still work to be done in getting the State Swim Meet back to its rightful home at The Ohio State University McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus. Also, I am trying to get Regional Bowling Tournaments reinstated over League Play because regional tournaments are the best and only way to determine the best bowlers in the state of Ohio. My team Franklin County Special Olympics will not be sending the basketball and swim teams to Bowling Green this year. Other teams like Hilliard, Pickerington, and Worthington are going to Bowling Green this weekend; while Franklin County Special Olympics, Gahanna, New Albany, and others are refraining from going to BGSU this year. The other teams that are not going will have their fun meets/celebrations this week and next. Momentum is gaining traction in getting the State Swim Meet back to Columbus, and we cannot let up. Please go to the Special Olympics Ohio website to express your concerns; and join as an athlete, coach, or volunteer. Thank you so much for unwavering support in getting the State Swim Meet back to Columbus and Central Ohio. Talk soon. Take care. Thank you again.
