Southwark Council have proposed selling The Belham Primary School's School House to private developers. This building sits in our children's playground and has been an integral part of the school site since the 19th Century. 

Selling off the house to private developers is a safeguarding risk to our children, will be disruptive to the life of the school and removes a building from public ownership that could be better used for educational and community purposes. For example there is a lack of space for provision for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in Southwark schools, the school currently lacks sufficient space for music and arts, and local community groups need space to meet.

The Council tried to auction off the School House without consultation and at short notice. Fortunately, the community spoke up and Southwark Council backed down. Now it is time to show Southwark that they need to listen to the local community.

We ask Southwark Council to commit to finding a solution which allows the building to be used for educational purposes by the school and the community.
