The Issue

The injustice and discrimination of the black community has unfortunately become an unchallenged norm in British society, until now. Like every form of discrimination, it comes from lack of knowledge, education and representation.

For decades schools and the government have highlighted the statistical academic underachievement of black pupils. I believe this could be bettered if black pupils had more representation as a form of motivation.

We, the parents at Southfield Primary School, hope for a change. We want our children to celebrate each others differences, teaching tolerance and love.

Although previous changes in the history curriculum were made in introducing Black History Month, we feel that it's implementation has been inadequate and minimal.

Therefore we are asking that our school, Southfield Primary School, review it's history curriculum in all years, so that black history is celebrated in its full potential. Black history is so rich in which all children deserve to be empowered by, more importantly black children deserve to have role models that allow them to strive for greatness as their counterparts do.
