Southeast Missouri State University looks like an amazing college campus on the outside, yet what female students are facing is dark and twisted. It has come to light that many female students have been sexually assaulted and raped on campus. These students have been pushed aside and disregarded due to their assaulters being on the football team. The staff to the dean of students has been quoted as saying “Consent to a kiss is consent to sex” which simply wrong in more ways than one. Though the students go through the proper channels, they are ignored. SEMO would rather cover up the assaults than hold the accused accountable for their actions. Students are being harassed for simply coming forward about their experiences and most of SEMO is entirely quiet; no criminal charges for any sexual assault or verbal harassment. By signing this petition, we can show the silent college that these attackers should be brought to a fair trial for their crimes. We can push for a change on a campus that many students are excited to attend. We can receive justice for the students on this campus who have been attacked, berated, belittled, and forced to transfer. We are not silent and will not stand for covered-up crimes. To those who have been attacked, we hear you, we see you, and we believe you.
