Keep Equestrian Programs Alive at Windmill Farm

Keep Equestrian Programs Alive at Windmill Farm
The Issue
Per a recent Township decision, we are in need of the support to keep open our local Equestrian riding facility. Windmill Farm has served many people from the local community and supports equestrian activities in the Commerce Township and surrounding areas. Windmill Farm supports local Equestrian teams from elementary through high school from Walled Lake, Huron Valley, Milford, and several other schools in the Oakland County area. It is also where facilitation takes place for several 501(c)(3) organizations. It provide services for riders ranging from beginning to advanced through 5 different trainers and instructors, and includes therapeutic riding programs as well. Students from these programs have graduated from beginners to college scholarship winners and include several champions from circuit shows that traveled throughout the state. The programs the farm provides only one is local to both Commerce Township families and students and families living in the surrounding areas with enough horses and programs to support them all.
The kids and families love to ride at Windmill are empowered to be leaders in their community; and it promotes a safe and secure environment especially when there is not always another avenue for children who love this particular sport. If the farm was to be lost for development of the land, as has been currently decided, it would leave the students and families here with no other option to continue with a passion they love.
