Thank you to everyone for supporting this campaign to protect a much-loved historical asset. Especially during these difficult and uncertain times, where your support is even more appreciated and everyone’s minds are on more pressing priorities.
To keep you informed since the petition was launched just a few days ago: I have written to the local press and three ward councillors (two have since replied). I’ve shared the campaign on relevant social media pages. And, the planners are now aware of the petition (the council is also the landowner). Ultimately any final decision lies with Historic England as it is they who will asses my application for listed building status.
This is not ‘nimbyism’ or anti-this or anti-that. I am all for positive development as i’m sure we all are. However, I firmly believe that we should treasure our architectural and social heritage in such a case as The Regent/Mecca; and I thank you for your continued support. Once this building has gone - it’s lost forever.
Whatever the outcome I will keep you updated and at least we can always say we tried! Thank you.
