"Arguing that you don't care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different than saying you don't care about free speech because you have nothing to say."

South Cambridgeshire District Council (SCDC) are forcing all Executive drivers to have CCTV and panic buttons in their cars for the protection of the passengers and the drivers themselves.I think this is a fantastic idea for those driving street car taxis who pick up unknown passengers from pubs, clubs and unknown addresses and it is paramount that the passenger and driver are protected as they are completely unknown to each other. This is a safety mechanism and I fully support it (note; installation is at cost to me, and will affect the resale price of my car later on).

It is also paramount that those who want their privacy and pay for this service should be allowed.

My issue is that I am an executive driver and I have contracts with my passengers, many of whom I have driven for many years and we have a developed good working relationships and in a lot of cases have a gone on to form mutual friendships. They trust me implicitly as I do them, they are my friends and they feel safe in my vehicle, we can talk openly in private to each other knowing that what is said will remain confidential. They often use my vehicle as their private mobile office. Some of these contracted passengers/friends have used my services for so many years that I have witnessed their children grow up who now use me for their business travel, Some of my passengers have passed away and i am at their funerals too ! NOT as a driver but as a friend of the families, .

As an executive driver my work very much comprises of repeat business and I have been very successful at this. My vehicle for this reason is plate exempt so I am not required to display signage on my car which ensures my car fits my passenger's expectation of a executive vehicle and they/their business pay a premium charge for this.

I am a family man who built up this business as I identified a need for this when I used to be a taxi driver and have successfully created a living from this. My main journeys are long distance business to business travel and the odd family occasions too, because they trust me rather than that of a taxi driver for experience of their needs

I need help with gathering support as the council will not recognize that there is a difference between a taxi drivers and executive drivers.

My passengers are known to me and I am known to them and we have a contract in place. They have told me they would feel very uncomfortable with this enforced intrusion of their privacy and they do not want CCTV any more than I do.

In fact they may decide to use a Executive drivers from other counties who is not bound by this SCDC blanket policy.

My livelihood is at stake and I am very concerned for my future, If i install CCTV i run the risk of losing my friends/clients whom i have been driving for years..... and if i refuse to install CCTV system that is not needed in my car then my license will not be renewed, therefore I can no longer drive....My passengers/friends have been with me for nearly 20 years and I respect their PRIVACY

Please sign this petition and share it if you understand my fight.I have already been appeared on the local Anglia news and been interviewed by the Cambridge News and written letters to Lucy Frazer (MP for South Cambs) who is looking into the issue. I need to keep this campaign alive.

THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A STREET CAR TAXI AND AN EXECUTIVE CONTRACTED DRIVER. SCDC DONT WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS AND ARE INTRODUCING THIS BLANKET POLICY THAT WILL LOSE ME TRADE FROM THOSE WHO WANT THE PRIVACY THEY GET WHEN TRAVELLING WITH ME.

Thank you you for your support.
