The Durban Youth Council's Response to the Lawlessness in Durban

To The Durban Youth Council's Supporters,

We, the youth of Durban, are truly grateful for your support over the past couple of days, amid the protest action and lawlessness that has unfolded.

Despite not having received any attention from the South African Government or any political leaders as yet, we are continuing to do our best to share our petition, in order to make some change to strengthen restrictions in KwaZulu-Natal, that will aid in ensuring the safety of our citizens. Stricter restrictions on the movement of people in KwaZulu-Natal is imperative in restoring order in our communities, as well as reducing the spread of the COVID-19, as the country is still under Lockdown Level 4. We urge the South African Government to implement such restrictions.

We appeal to all of you to continue sharing this petition on your social media platforms (WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube), and tag DYC in these posts on those platforms (@thedurbanyouthcouncil).

We have compiled a list of all Operational Businesses in Durban. This list is being regularly updated, as more information is received. The link to this list on Google Docs is: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1lPUB79LWbtMmM51PKa53i8Csc0ptr2S6wRdMAP4GV4I/edit

DYC’s One In A Million

The Durban Youth Council is also running a flagship project called, "One In A Million!", that aims at raising 1 million Rand by getting 1 million South Africans to donate at least R1 each. DYC’s intention for One In A Million was to assist in feeding people during the COVID-19 Lockdown in South Africa. But given the recent events that have unfolded, we have had to adjust our focus for DYC’s One in a Million project, and steer all donations to community restoration projects and initiatives that will help repair, restore and rebuild our communities, to sustain our city of Durban. This can be achieved through funding from private & corporate sponsors. Funds raised would also be used towards buying food items & sanitary products to provide to the greater Durban area.

If you are running a community restoration project, please email us on info@durbanyouthcouncil.co.za, or inbox us on our social media platforms (@thedurbanyouthcouncil). Any projects that DYC is participating in for One in a Million, will be displayed on our social media platforms, so please ensure that you are following us to track our progress on One in a Million, and see how we are doing our part to restore our communities.

Please find the links to DYC's YouTube videos on what One In A Million is about, and an Introduction to the Durban Youth Council, as well as links to our Social Media Platforms that are being updated with useful information during this uncertain period in Durban.
