In 2018 a colloquium was held in Cape Town organised by the Parliamentary Committee on the Environment.  Edna Molewa the Minister for the Environment made a hasty appearance the reason for the colloquium was to discuss South Africa’s captive bred lion industry.

Professional hunters stood alongside animals rights activists with regard to shutting down this horrendous industry in which between 10000 and 15000 lion are suffering some in the most horrific unmonitored conditions.

The government has seemingly ignored all the learned recommendations and is forging ahead with plans to export more than 800 lion skeletons to China per year.  The reason for this industry is use the skeletons to make wine.
