TheFloW had previously hinted about a new Vita hack coming to firmware 3.70. Now it seems there are two new hacks in the works. Team XYZ has released pictures of a new "3.70+ exploit chain", which they say works very similarly to the original 3.60 HENkaku - installing it via the Vita or PSTV's internet browser app. TheFloW meanwhile has released teasers of a new application called "Modoru", which is the Japanese word for "to return". As the name suggests, his new exploit enables a 3.70 Vita user "to return" to lower firmwares such as 3.60 or 3.68. Yes, we now have downgradable firmware on the Vita!

In theory, this could allow you to upgrade and downgrade your Vita's firmware as you please. Using 3.70 to access all the latest games while using outdated firmware for hacks. On the other hand, there may not be any need to downgrade with Team XYZ's new 3.70 HENkaku around the corner.

Once again, I need to emphasize: if your primary need for hacking your Vita is the PSTV Whitelist hack, it doesn't matter what firmware you are on. You can use PSVimgTools to patch your QCMA backups with the whitelist hack regardless of whether you are on current firmware or outdated firmware.

On the other hand, if you want to get around compatibility issues and limits of the whitelist hack, HENkaku is worth some consideration. H-encore allows you to install Xperi's PoC Vita USB video streaming plugin to play Vita games reliant on the camera and gyro controls on a HDTV; TheFlow's Adrenaline application allows you to force load PSP and PSone games that are not supported by the PSTV or even the Vita itself; and of course, h-encore allows you to use normal Micro SD cards with your Vita as either primary or additional storage.

Thankfully h-encore allow you to "spoof" the Vita to the latest firmware so you are not locked out of the PlayStation Store or other online features, and the reF00d plugin allows you to play 3.70 games on outdated firmware. But with these new hacks on the horizon, reF00d may soon be obsolete as we will be able to run HENkaku on 3.70 later this year.
