With Nintendo's Switch set to hit the shelves next month, it appears that Sony has decided to step up the game with a new handheld system. The Japanese Patent office has released a patent with illustrations of Sony's new entry to the next generation of handheld gaming.
The device resembles a smart phone or tablet computer with the halves of a Dual Shock controller attached to either side. At the present time, it is not clear if this new PlayStation handheld is a new Vita or a completely new console altogether. But of particular interest is a port that could very possibly be a mini HDMI, presumably to allow you to play games on TV.
If the handheld is indeed a new Vita, or at least an entirely new console with Vita backwards compatibility, this could be the solution to the PlayStation TV's whitelist. This will allow you to play PSTV compatible games on, well... the PSTV; and for any game not on the Whitelist you'll be able to play them on new handheld and output to a television via HDMI. No needs for hacks or expensive mods and no fear of being locked out of the PlayStation network.
We can only wait and see...
