What is one of the PSTV's biggest flaws other than having a whitelist? That's right, those overpriced proprietary memory cards. You want them, you need them, but you hate them. $130 for a 64GB card? That's about the price of a microSD card with 128GB of storage!
Wouldn't it be easier to use off the shelf SD cards or even USB thumb sticks? Well, homebrew developer TheFlow have announced that they have in development a hack that will allow you to use USB storage devices to save games to. Suppose you run out of space on your memory card? No worries, just get a USB drive and your good to go.
While a release date has not yet been set, TheFlow released this screenshot showing they accessing the PSTV's root folders via VitaShell. The folder labeled uma0: is the external USB drive, and as you can see they have an 8GB drive attached.
This will certainly be beneficial to PSTV owners on a budget. Hopefully Sony will release something official along these lines in the future. After wall, a firmware update to use external hard drives on the PlayStation 4 is just around the corner. Why not an update for Vita and PSTV allowing us to use external drives and play whatever Vita game we want on the PSTV?
