The Fight for Physical PlayStation Games Continues

The backlash is growing. Now, Sony Interactive Entertainment in Japan has introduced a new customer-harassment policy. The policy says Sony will take a firm stance against abusive or threatening behavior, including persistent or prolonged demands, unreasonable demands for compensation or apologies, abusive language, threats, slander, intimidation, and other conduct that goes beyond what is considered socially acceptable.
Sony says it may restrict or suspend customer service in such cases and, when necessary, consider legal action. We agree that harassment and threats are unacceptable. But criticism is not harassment. Players have every right to respectfully question Sony’s decisions, demand transparency, and ask the company to reconsider its plans for physical games.
The concern is whether broad terms like “persistent demands” could be misused to silence legitimate consumer criticism. Sony should clearly protect both its employees and consumers’ right to speak out.
