Petition mission has been updated! I have expanded our goal beyond collecting signatures by exploring further consumer protection efforts, including the possibility of a European Citizens’ Initiative, to defend game ownership rights, preservation, and continued access to physical games.
It is vital that everyone who has supported or signed this petition joins together to help develop a proposal that can be launched as a European Citizens’ Initiative, so we can continue working collectively to protect game ownership rights, physical game preservation, and consumer choice.

As many may have already noticed, Sony’s decision has sparked legal and political challenges across the globe. A Dutch consumer group, Stichting Massaschade & Consument, has filed a €400+ million lawsuit on behalf of approximately 1.7 million PlayStation users, arguing that removing physical games will reduce consumer choice and strengthen Sony’s control over game pricing.

Beyond the Netherlands, concerns are also growing in other countries. In France, political voices have raised concerns about the impact of removing physical games on consumer rights, ownership, and game preservation.
In Brazil, lawmakers have called for consumer protection authorities to examine the consequences of Sony’s decision, including concerns about consumers purchasing consoles with disc drives while facing a future with no physical releases.

These developments show that this is no longer only a discussion among gamers, but a wider debate about consumer rights, digital ownership, and the preservation of video games as cultural products.
