Cancel the $105 Million Expansion of the Nanaimo Port

Cancel the $105 Million Expansion of the Nanaimo Port
The Issue
"The Port of Nanaimo has finished penning its 50 year lease agreement with International shipping company DP World, to expand the Duke Point terminal." This is to reduce congestion at Vancouver ports. " This expansion will lay the foundation for international importing and exporting to Asia." We already have numerous Freighters anchored in this area. Gabriola Island, Nanaimo ,and Ladysmith do not want any more congestion in the ocean here. The noise and Freighter Congestion will adversely affect Tourism, and Real Estate Prices on Gabriola, and Nanaimo. The whale population is already under threat, from : ship strikes, noise and ocean pollution. The Marine Environment is fragile! There has been no Referendum regarding what we want, and no Environmental Assessment done. We are trying to get away from the dependence on Fossil Fuels. The Federal Government will not cancel the TMX Pipeline, and has earmarked $46.2 million for this project. The BC Government has promised $15 million. The Federal, and B. C. Provincial Governments advocate for Environmental concerns , while this expansion indicates otherwise.
