CITY COUNCIL CANCELS NOISE ORDINANCE MEETING

Friday I sent out an alert about a city council  committee meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 22 where the new noise ordinance was going to be on the agenda. That committee meeting has been abruptly canceled.  The new ordinance that would have been discussed is being sponsored by Council Pres. Lakisha Collins-Bellamy and Council Member Corazon Pineda-Isaac.  The ordinance would fix the many mistakes that have been made by the council since 2023, and roll most of the noise limits back to their pre-2023 limits. 

I don't know why the meeting was canceled. The decision would be made by Council Member Tim Hodges, who chairs the legislation and codes committee.  Other members of the committee are  John Rubbo, Tasha Diaz,  Mike Breen and Collins-Bellamy.  This could be challenging — it was ethically challenged council member Tasha Diaz who  initiated the 2023 noise limit increase. with John Rubbo's support. Rubbo continues to support the high noise limits and is apparently under no obligation to recuse himself as the owner of a downtown bar that often hosts heavy metal bands and as the council member who represents many bars on McLean Ave.
