I started this petition to #SolveFoodWaste in Australia over two years ago. The issue has only become more relevant: the impacts of COVID-19 on global supply chains and the consequences of the recent natural disasters on our east coast should be the wake up call we need to stop food wastage.

Everyday Australians are already dealing with higher grocery bills since the floods. Shortage of fruits and vegetables in some areas is going to be unavoidable. In fact, "a major supplier to Coles told The New Daily last week that the looming floods could easily disrupt supplies of everything from onions to broccoli."

These big shifts are most likely going to impact the most vulnerable in our communities - those who are already struggling to put food on the table.

We have a solution to these huge problems. Supermarkets and the government must commit to donating unsold or surplus food. Throwing food away is a luxury we may not have for long. The time to make the change is now.

Thank you for your continued support. I'm overjoyed to see thousands of people signing the petition recently. Together, we can #SolveFoodWaste
