Solidarity with the SSRWives development team
The Issue
🔗Article that lays out a description of the issue.
BACKSTORY IN BRIEF
In early November, a disgruntled former financial backer launched a scorched-earth campaign against the upcoming video game SSRWives: The Murder of My Winter Crush, claiming control of the project's Intellectual Property among other damages. He has since seized access to the game's official Twitter profile via manipulation of the site's support system (and now uses the account to gloat about removing the game's demo from Steam distribution and to brag about spending $1000 on a single restaurant tab), employed a bot farm to mass report the head developer's personal Twitter account and Discord server, and has filed a lawsuit listing every individual member of the game's original team as a defendant. He has allegedly also made moves to hire cut-rate replacement labor to "complete" the game to his own specifications.
[UPDATE: As of December 16, the head developer's personal twitter account has been reinstated.]
We, the undersigned, stand firm in solidarity with the original developers in their ongoing legal battle, and condemn the actions of those conspiring to ruin and rob them of their hard work. We further affirm that we will not support any product not borne of the original team's labor, and shall refuse to acknowledge any product bearing that title manufactured independently of the original team.
We deplore the use of unethical, scummy practices to strip the creators of their social platforms and means of public outreach. We will not shrink from brute force and bullying, and will instead endeavor to highlight and archive any further activity done in service of fear and intimidation. We will still remain after the dust has settled, and the borrowed time gained by legal delay elapses.
We, the fans, wish a speedy resolution to this late unpleasantness, and offer our signatures as a token of gratitude to the team for all they've had to endure.
Your signature on this document helps prove that there are those who care about independent creativity and the realization of passion projects, free from the tyranny of corporate molestation.
