RESOLUTION ON THE CONTINUING NAKBA

7 October 2026

We gather on 7 October in a spirit of grief, prayer and solidarity with the Palestinian people, conscious that the Nakba — the catastrophe of dispossession, displacement and loss experienced by Palestinians since 1948 — has not ended. It continues to shape the lives of Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and of millions of refugees and displaced people.

We note the international political context in which Israel has gone unchallenged and unpunished for its heinous war crimes committed on the Palestinian people, and the role of the United States, which must share culpability for its active collaboration in the devastation of Gaza and the killing of over 77,000 children, women and men, many shot at point-blank range, including journalists and international relief workers.

We note that the Indian political leadership seems to have forgotten the historical relationship of our people and governments till now with the people of Palestine and their struggle to live fee in their own homeland. We are distressed at the military materiel and human resource reportedly sent to the Israeli regime, making the country complicit in the crimes against humanity committed of the Benjamin Netanyahu regime.

We particularly remember and stand with the people of Gaza, whose lives have been devastated by war, displacement and the destruction of homes, health facilities, schools, livelihoods and essential infrastructure. We remember children, women, the elderly, persons with disabilities, families who have lost loved ones, and all those struggling simply to survive and to rebuild their lives. The United Nations continues to report profound humanitarian needs and severe restrictions affecting humanitarian operations in Gaza.

We also stand with the people of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, where Palestinians continue to experience displacement, demolitions, settler violence, restrictions on movement and access to land and essential services. Recent UN reporting records a continuing expansion in the geographical reach of settler attacks and significant Palestinian displacement during 2026.

We affirm that behind every statistic is a human being, a family, a home, a community and a story. We therefore reject approaches that reduce Palestine merely to a security question, a humanitarian crisis or a political dispute. At the heart of the question is a people seeking dignity, freedom, justice, equality and the right to live in their own land with security and hope.

We therefore resolve:

  • To express our unequivocal solidarity with the Palestinian people, particularly those in Gaza and the West Bank, and to accompany them in their struggle for dignity, freedom, justice and peace.
  • To call for the protection of all civilians, an immediate and sustained end to violence against civilians, and unhindered humanitarian access to all who are in need.
  • To affirm the right of Palestinians to remain on their land, to return to their homes where they have been displaced, and to live free from occupation, dispossession, discrimination and forced displacement.
  • To call upon governments, churches, civil society, particularly  in India,  and the international community not merely to express concern but to pursue concrete measures that uphold international law, protect human rights and address the root causes of the continuing Nakba.
  • To strengthen people-to-people solidarity, listening to Palestinian voices and supporting Palestinian churches, civil society, families, youth and communities as they work to preserve life, dignity, culture, faith and hope.
  • To commit ourselves to continuing accompaniment and action, believing that genuine peace cannot be built without justice, freedom and equal dignity for Palestinians and Israelis alike.

We remember the dead.

We accompany the living.

We refuse to forget the displaced.

And we commit ourselves to walking with the Palestinian people until justice, freedom, dignity and peace become realities for all.
