NO to Social Security Fund (SSF) with existing schemes, Make it FAIR and EQUAL for all!
The Issue
Association of NIC ASIA Bank Staff (ANICABS) is the registered employee union of NIC ASIA Bank (https://www.facebook.com/AssociationOfNICASIABankStaff) and is one of the affiliated members of FIEUN. ANICABS has initiated this petition as our strong stand against participating and contributing to Social Security Fund foregoing the existing contribution based remuneration and fringe benefits considering the existing schemes of Social Security Fund (SSF) and ANICABS would request for the necessary amendments and clarity on the schemes and SSF as a whole to make it fair and equal securing the economic rights of the workers as secured by the constitution and law of land.
Social Security Fund (https://ssf.gov.np) had written a letter to the banks after the budget asking them to get on boarded to SSF by mid-term. Nepal Bankers’ Association (An umbrella organization of the banks represented by the CEOs) has written a letter to the Social Security Fund stating that it will not be able to come by force after it was asked to be listed by mid-July. Since then, there has been widespread protest from employees. Protests are taking place as the money we have earned will be reduced and there is clear discrimination between government and private sector employees.
After the employees protested, Financial Institute Employees Union of Nepal (FIEUN) wrote a letter to the fund asking it to make arrangements to 'join only interested employees'. Most of the bank's employees' unions have been protesting since the fund started forcing them. They are expressing their disagreement by writing letters to the SSF, Nepal Rastra Bank and other stakeholders.
"Social Security Fund will have to make amendments and revisions on about a dozen issues before the banks can register." demands Suman Thapa, President of Association of NIC ASIA Bank Staff (ANICABS). He says that if the banks and financial institutions are forced to register in the fund ignoring the suggestions, the employees will start agitation and go to court for legal help. A statement issued by the association said that they are ready to join the fund if the issues raised by the association are addressed immediately by the government and SSF.
The association has put forward various demands for this. The demand statement states that the contribution-based social security scheme should be made labor-friendly by amending some provisions of the act, regulations and procedures.
