Social media platforms need to remove anti McCann accounts, groups and pages
The Issue
I, a deeply concerned user of various social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter, have noticed a disturbing trend. Posts and comments proclaiming "Madeleine McCann is dead" are being removed, while at the same time, these platforms allow the creation of pages with the sole purpose of spreading hatred against Madeleine's family. These pages include the Facebook groups named "Justice For Madeleine McCann", "Madeleine McCann abduction or scam", "Justice for Madeleine Beth McCann", "HiDeHo CONTROVERSY of Madeleine McCann", "The Madeleine McCann CONTROVERSY", and "What Really Happened to Madeleine McCann".
Madeleine McCann's case touched millions of lives when she disappeared in 2007. It has been a subject of numerous investigations and media coverage. Despite this, the spread of unfounded speculations and incitements of hatred against her family is neither fair nor ethical. As users of these platforms, we demand that their policies are revised to ensure that such malignant content is swiftly removed from their servers.
The power of social media cannot be underestimated. They have become crucial forums for discussion, interaction, and even social change. However, they also have a responsibility to foster a safe and respectful environment for all users. We urge Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter to take immediate and decisive action against these hate-fostering groups, setting a precedent of zero tolerance for hate speech and defamation. Stand with us, sign this petition today. Social media platforms need to be held accountable, such Facebook groups and pages is causing harm and distress,
