SLOW and implement traffic calming measures on Noak Hill and Chequers Road
The Issue
Petition:
To Implement Traffic Calming Measures on Noak Hill and Chequers Roads.
To install a Zebra/Pelican Crossing on Noak Hill Road, Romford
WHY do we feel we need this:
Noak Hill Road was once a quiet country lane but time has moved on and we now have
housing and commercial developments which have led to increased traffic volumes and higher vehicle speeds.
An increase in residents and pedestrians needing to cross daily, including to access public transport on both sides of the road as well as a retirement residency.
Many people, including children, elderly residents, and those with disabilities are struggling to access public transport and cross the road safely.
Ongoing daily accidents involving wildlife as they cross from the nature reserve to farmland.
Chequers Road leads directly into Noak Hill Road, with the speed limit changing from 40mph to 30mph.
Both of which are now far too excessive for the surrounding residential and pedestrian-heavy area.
The roads cut through densely populated residential areas and safety measures are now a matter of urgency
The excessive speed of vehicles is creating a constant danger.
In the past six months, there have been three serious accidents on this stretch of road including one very sad fatality.
We call upon the council to take urgent action:
1. To install traffic calming measures to reduce vehicle speeds.
2. To provide a Zebra/Pelican crossing at a safe and accessible location.
3. To review and reduce speed limits on both Noak Hill Road and Chequers Road to reflect the high pedestrian use and residential character of the area.
These measures will improve pedestrian and road safety, ensure safe access to public transport, protect wildlife, and enhance the quality of life for residents.
We urge the council to act now before another serious accident occurs.
