The final chapter of the "Seychellois justice"

There is no happy end. In February 2020, the top court in Seychelles dismissed my civil case levied against the Six Senses Zil Passion on the grounds that I, as the plaintiff, lack credibility and consistency in the way that I presented my evidence. 

As I see it now, it was all prejudiced, all fixed from the very beginning. The Six Senses owners started talking about the discrepancies and lack of consistency in my evidence a month after this nightmare happened. Although back then, I haven’t even testified yet. The only statement I have consistently repeated since the very beginning was: “I have never known this man. He broke into my villa at night and raped me at knifepoint.” This has always been the only truth that was never refuted.  

In contrast, there were many contradictions in the hotel management's actions: falsified evidence accepted by the first court and discredited by the second, the disappearance of the security cameras footage, the shocking fact that the second rape attempt performed by the same individual has never been considered as court evidence. 

I was considering appealing to the Supreme Court and later addressing the UN commission on Human Rights (I could only address the UNHR commission in Africa, where understanding of what “human rights” is as inadequate as it is in the Seychelles). But the only lawyer I was able to find in the Seychelles in 2017 decided to retire and therefore could not take my case further. Finding a new attorney is not possible: all legal advisors which we contacted refused us under various pretexts. 

I decided to continue living as if I won. I believe the truth became obvious when I went public with my story and that was my main mission. The powers are unequal and I am ready to admit it. 

I now know precisely what corruption and injustice look like in a third world country, in a situation where an international corporation chooses an unethical approach to defending its business interests. 

Would it be a different result if an American or British woman filed a lawsuit in Europe? This was tropical island “justice” applied to a female citizen of Russia  – it was an undoubtedly lose – lose situation. 

I am grateful to all the support you provided me with! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to tell the truth right into the faces of those people. It gave me strength to recover. I have no further strength to continue this battle. I am the only person who supports my son and myself and I can’t keep wasting my internal resources without any hope for a clear result.  I can’t afford to relive this traumatic experience over and over again. 

I do not have an answer to the question of how to find justice while fighting against a huge corporation. I hope the time will distinguish truth from lies.
