Lisa Bloom - the famous US women's rights lawyer - supported my petition by signing it: "Anna, I applaud you for standing up for your rights. I am so sorry you are going through this horrendous experience".
Unfortunately, I am not the only hotel rape victim. When I decided to go vocal about the terrible crime committed against me, dozens of women from Russia, US, Canada and Asia started messaging me. All of us had a common experience: the hotel management was covering the criminal up. These women did not have enough courage to go to the police. All of them still live with this trauma.
Lisa Eegan from US wrote under my petition: “A similar thing happened to me in Venezuela. Hotel kicked the guy out, police were corrupt, I was lucky I got out no one helped me, and the hotel completely covered it up saying it’s bad publicity. Well if this is happening to people and hotels do nothing that’s worse publicity. I hope u get justice.”
It looks like we see a horrible "hotel trend", not only in the Seychelles. In December 2018 the U.S. State Department has warned tourists about a pervasive sexual assault problem in Jamaica, where two women were raped at gunpoint in September. Over the past seven years, 78 Americans have been raped in Jamaica— that's roughly one U.S. citizen raped a month — though sex crimes aren't unique to the island.
And how many female tourists from other countries became victims of similar crimes in hotels with same covering up afterwards?
By fighting for the truth, I am fighting for dozens of those who did not have courage to fight for themselves. This hotel conspiracy and shameful practice should be stopped at the industry level! There should be clear procedures for both – guests and managers - on how to protocol criminal cases like mine. There should not be room for double reading of a rape! Guests should feel safe and protected in the hotels!
I would like to address such regulating entities as the World Tourism Organisation #UNWTO to bring justice into life and recognise the trend as a crisis. I hope this will enforce all the tourism-governing bodies to take actions in order to protect all the parties involved.
But first, I demand justice for myself and those who are silent!
