BAG Petition UPDATE: "A Call for Unity & Purpose"

4 nov 2016 — UPDATE: Nov 4th-We have reached a bench mark of more than 200 signatures of which over 100 of them are on line. (paper signatures were collected at the start of this petition) We are simply exercising our rights according to the By-Laws of the Black Alumni Group (BAG) as BAG members to assemble annually. Past BAG presidents have informed us that in the past, the general meeting called in the off year of the reunion had been held during Homecoming weekend! An important message from Senator Roland Burris: Fellow Alumni, I encourage you to sign this petition to call for a general meeting of the Black Alumni Group! If we're going to keep our organization viable we need to have an official treasurer’s report, ratify our newly revised By-Laws from 2015 and form an inter-generational reunion committee to plan the reunion event and unify our organization! There has been no response from the current BAG President to be in compliance with the By-Laws and call a general meeting by October 30th as was requested by the General Body! We will send the President of BAG a notice that we intent to have a General meeting before the end of this year. We will proceed with the following actions! -#1. We encourage each member on this petition to email, call or text another alumnus to ask them to sign this petition and add their voice to the call for unifying our BAG organization and re-focusing its purpose to that which the founders intended it to be. -#2. We will set the meeting for either Saturday, December 3rd or December 10th from 11:00 am to 3pm location TBA and there will be conference call line available depending on YOUR response and availability for the above dates! -#3. We will email the membership copies of the revised BAG By-Laws (This weekend) that were reviewed at our 2015 general meeting in order to re-read them and to be prepared to ratify at this general meeting -#4. We will establish an inter-generational BAG reunion committee whose responsibility will be to plan all reunions and anniversary milestone celebrations. We are soliciting the membership prior to the general meeting for participation on this committee. (Will let them know that conference call technology will allow everyone to have the opportunity to participate.) Let's come together and do the right thing! Let's put the "purpose" back into our Reunion party!!!
