Sir David Attenborough Day - A New National Holiday for Earth Action

The Issue

Hi,

I love Sir David Attenborough.

He's been a part of my life ever since I was born, crouching down among the gorillas, whispering carefully so as not to disturb them, showing me things under the sea and up trees, and proving that yes, sometimes, a male lions can be caring. Things I would otherwise never have had the opportunity to see. I am eternally grateful for that. Thank you.

Out of anyone in the world, he's also been an icon for how to be the kind of human we should all be: fascinated by nature and caring for it, helping it to flourish and thrive. Not squeezing every last drop of life we can from it and in the process dooming ourselves to destruction.

At 98, I think he deserves a day off.

And we could have one. Please vote for this if you want to honour this man and what he stands for. Let's create a new national holiday on his birthday (May 8) to say thank you to him and to celebrate a beautiful planet we all need to protect.

And on that day, we could all chip in a do a bit more for the planet that we all depend on.

I love where I live but struggle to find time to do anything more than just that, or take a few things to the charity shop so someone else can make use of them.

While those are well-intentioned, I kinda get the feeling it's not going to be enough to stop the worst effects of human-fuelled global warming and wider climate change.

But if we all had a day off to take more meaningful action, we could do a bit more for the planet that we all depend on.

Love where you live x

Kind regards,

Lee
