No podemos pemitir que su prestigio como naturalista y su trayectoria como divulgador en defensa de la biodiversidad y la naturaleza en general se relaccionen de alguna manera con el Principado de Asturias, una comunidad autónoma cuyo gobierno autoriza la matanza de lobos en un Parque Nacional, la matanza de cormoranes a demanda de los pescadores deportivos, permite la implantación masiva de plantaciones de eucaliptos sacrificando los bosques atlánticos más meridionales de Europa, permite el uso del fuego por los ganaderos , amplía licencias de explotación a canteras de caliza que se comen las montañas aun a sabiendas de la falta de demanda del material, insta a los ayuntamientos a permitir el cambio de combustible de gas natural a Pet-coke a toda empresa que lo solicite, no se opone al fracking...todas estas políticas que destrozan el patrimonio natural y la biodiversidad, mientras se cumplen 30 años de la campaña Asturias Paraiso Natural.

Consideramos que todo esto puede dañar la imagen de Sir David Atenborough y le rogamos que rechace y condene la política medioambiental del Principado de Asturias.

You have been bestowed with the 2009 Prince of Asturias Award for Social Sciences. Since then, The Goverment of The Principality of Asturias has authorized the killing of wolves inside a Natural park; the killing of shags in reply to the requests of sporting fishermen; it has allowed massive plantations of eucalyptus to the detriment of the natural Atlantic woods in the Southern Alps of Europe; it permits farmers to burn off stubble in fields with no or little supervision, what causes the majority of fires that burns our forests and causes erosion in our mountains;it has extended and expanded licences for limestone quarries that eat away at mountains despite being aware of the lack of demand for the material; it urges town councils to allow changes of fuel from natural gas to Pet-coke to any company that requests it; it has a positive attitude towards fracking, while many other areas and countries are up in arms against it...

We cannot allow that a man with such a prestigious career as a Naturalist and Documentalist, a defender of biodiversity and Nature in general to be tainted in any way by a connection with the Principality of Asturias.

All these policies of the Govt. of the Principality of Asturias that destroy the Natural patrimony and biodiversity of the region while at the same time celebrating the 30 years of the ‘Asturias, a Natural Paradise’ campaign.

We believe that this can damage your image and we plead that you reject and condemn the environmental policy of the Principality of Asturias.
