So tonight's Board of Selectman meeting was the culmination of 14 months advocacy. Simsbury Ambulance said that they would staff a 2nd ambulance for our 25,000+ town only from 7am to 7pm with several stated escape clauses, so bottom line not much different than currently. The Town gave the 501c3 SVAA the PSA (service area) for Simsbury in the 1990s, which was very short-sighted, and something that Avon did Not do. To remove them and change to a more capable provider a "show cause hearing" must be held with the State and the bar is low for SVAA to meet, and the BOS is not aggressive. In fact our First Selectman, and especially Selectman Chris Peterson, praised SVAA and without any evidence stated that they were confident that the hand-picked SVAA Board handled all TWELVE whistle blower and other recent very serious complaints and letters from former and current SVAA Emergency Personnel "appropriately". Stay healthy and keep your fingers crossed and pray when calling for an ambulance for yourself, your parents, or your children. They could arrive in 7 minutes, 15, or 32, and just because you may have had a good experience in the past is no guarantee of future performance. I'm sorry. We tried very hard.
