Petition calling for immediate government action on student accommodation crisis - ÓSF PL

The Issue

Ógra Shinn Féin Phort Láirge are calling on Minister for Further and Higher Education Simon Harris and Minister for Housing Darragh O'Brien to take immediate action to rectify the current student housing/accommodation crisis that is effecting thousands of students accross the state.

Knowing this crisis was in the making and following several warnings it was coming, the government are now silent. We're calling on the ministers to take action and support students still bearing the brunt of the pandemics effects and current housing crisis.

There is currently record levels of homelessness being reported among the student population of Ireland.

Thousands of students accross the country are paying extortionate prices to stay in hotels, are forced to commute long hours everyday, are sleeping on friends couches or have been left with no choice but to defer their studies for another year as they cannot find or afford rental properties/college accommodation.

Minster Simon Harris and Minister Darragh O'Brien must now break their silence and take immediate action to support the thousands of students who are stuck in this dire situation. Students cannot wait any longer and the more time the ministers waste by avoiding responsibility, the worse this situation will get.

With parents and students under extreme stress and financial burden, immediate action, not silence, is needed from the ministers and government.
