Tauranga's Rainbow Crossing is being painted tonight! (Tuesday Dec 17)

Kia ora koutou,

We’ve been keeping this under wraps for a little while, but the moment has finally arrived! Tonight, Tuesday, 17th December, Tauranga Moana’s vibrant new Rainbow Crossing is being installed.

The crossing will be open to the public tomorrow morning, and we highly encourage you to swing by and snap a selfie—strike a fun pose, go for the Beatles stance, or just capture the moment in your own way! This is our chance to celebrate the rich diversity of our city.

A quick heads-up: there may be some individuals who attempt to deface or even cover up this symbol of unity, equality, and inclusivity. While their actions reflect sadness and ignorance, let’s not let it dampen our spirits. We must remember that hate comes from a place of fear, and those who choose to spread it are missing out on the power of love, connection, and collaboration.

Let’s continue to walk with Pride, embracing the optimism and progress that come with striving for a better world. There will always be challenges, but together, we rise above them.

Thank you, whanau! Onwards!
