Sign our letter to Secretary-General António Guterres to urge the UN to create a humanitarian financial channel to help flood hit Iranians.

Dear Secretary-General Guterres,
We, a group of Iranians residing in and outside the country, along with citizens of other countries, would like to inform you that the devastating floods that took place in March 2019 in Iran left a total of 78 human casualties and more than 1130 physical injured, the event affected the lives of 10 million further citizens. It is estimated two million people directly need relief, biological and livelihood support. The high level of waterlogging has destroyed many rural homes and farms, and has left many urban houses and business units at risk of collapse.
Since global media coverage showcasing massive casualties and destruction left behind by the floods in Iran, many Iranians outside Iran, as well as citizens of other countries and international relief organizations, have been making attempts to provide their cash contributions to the Red Crescent Society of Iran to compensate for flood damage. These contributions have not been reaching those in need, due to the United States’ inhumane sanctions. No cash donation has been received so far.
Despite the fact that the non-cash aid of some countries have been sent to Iran and distributed in flood-stricken areas, there is still a serious challenge for those who are eager to support flood victims in cash. This challenge stems from The United States sanctions and blocking of financial transactions with Iran.
The actions of The United States have left millions of people deprived from receiving the aid they are entitled to, as well as those eager to help their fellow human beings. This is a serious violation of Human Rights. While the Iranian flood crisis is a natural disaster associated with the fate of human beings, the US government which looks politically at this crisis, has captured humanitarian lights in deep darkness.
While condemning this inhumane US action, we expect and urge you and your colleagues in the United Nations to utilize legal means and compel the US government as soon as possible to open a humanitarian financial channel for the Red Crescent Society of Iran. As a humanitarian organization and member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the Red Crescent Society of Iran will then be able to start providing urgent help to flood victims and improve their living needs in the post-crisis phase. If urgent action is not taken you must then be responsive to the world's public opinion and accountable for the worsening conditions of the flood victims.
In the end, we emphasize that the lives of two million people are out of normal conditions and require humanitarian aid. This is a great opportunity for the United Nations to prove its role in uploading Human Rights and defending the lives of human beings.

ما، جمعی از ایرانیان داخل و خارج کشور و شهروندان دیگر کشورها، مایلیم به اطلاع شما برسانیم وقوع سیلاب‌های ویرانگر در ماه مارچ در ایران، با آمار 78 تلفات انسانی و بیش از 1130 مصدوم جسمی؛ در زندگی 10 میلیون نفر تاثیر گذاشته و دو میلیون نفر را مستقیما نیازمند حمایت‌های امدادی، زیستی و معیشتی کرده است. همچنین حجم بالای آبگرفتگی، بسیاری از خانه‌های روستایی و مزارع را ویران کرده و بسیاری از منازل شهری و واحدهای کسب و کار را با خطر ریزش مواجه کرده است.

از زمانی که اخبار و تصاویر تاثر برانگیز تلفات و ویرانی‌های سیل ایران در تمام دنیا منتشر شد، بسیاری از ایرانیان خارج از ایران و همچنین شهروندان کشورهای دیگر و سازمان‌های امدادرسان بین‌المللی تلاش کردند تا کمک‌های نقدی خود را به جمعیت هلال احمر ایران برای جبران خسارات سیل‌زدگان برسانند اما متاسفانه به دلیل تحریم‌های غیرانسانی امریکا این اقدام تاکنون فراهم نشده است.

با وجود این که کمک‌های غیرنقدی برخی کشورها به ایران ارسال و در مناطق سیل‌زده توزیع شده است، اما برای کسانی که مشتاق حمایت از آسیب‌دیدگان سیل به صورت نقدی هستند همچنان چالشی جدی برجاست که دولت امریکا به دلیل تحریم‌های ظالمانه و مسدود کردن تبادلات مالی با ایران مسبب آن است.

اقدام امریکا در محروم‌کردن میلیون‌ها انسان از دریافت کمک‌هایی که حق آنهاست و نیز محروم‌کردن انسان‌هایی که شدیدا در فکر کمک به همنوعان خود هستند، نقض کامل حقوق بشر به شمار می‌آید و در حالی که بحران سیل ایران یک رویداد کاملا طبیعی و مرتبط با سرنوشت انسان‌هاست، دولت امریکا با نگاه سیاسی به این بحران، انوار بشردوستی را در تاریکی عمیق حبس کرده است.

ضمن محکوم کردن این عمل ضدانسانی امریکا، از جنابعالی و همکاران شما در سازمان ملل انتظار داریم با بهره‌گرفتن از ابزارهای قانونی، هر چه سریع‌تر دولت امریکا را مجبور به گشودن یک کانال مالی بشردوستانه برای جمعیت هلال احمر ایران به عنوان یک نهادبشردوست و عضو فدراسیون بین‌المللی جمعیت‌های صلیب سرخ و هلال احمر کنید تا روند امدادرسانی به سیل‌زدگان و تامین نیازهای زندگی آنان در مرحله پس از بحران به نحو مطلوبی انجام شود؛ در غیر این صورت، باید نسبت به شرایط اسفبار سیل‌زدگان پاسخگوی افکار عمومی جهان باشید.

در پایان تاکید می‌کنیم زندگی دو میلیون انسان کاملا از شرایط عادی خارج شده است و این فرصتی بزرگ برای سازمان ملل است تا نقش خود را در دفاع از زندگی انسان‌ها به اثبات برساند.
