I apologize to ALL of you who signed this petition to save our historical Salem Park Barn. Otherwise known as the “Greenbriar Billy Community Center”. Named after a founder of our town and a Revolutionary War Soldier. Despite ALL of your signatures plus signatures we collected in person the Salem City Council decided to move forward with destroying this amazing landmark. No matter what option we presented to Council and City Management, we were shut down at every turn. Thank you Mayor, Bobby Samples, and Councilpersons Sinnett, Stout, Golden, Siders, and Stewart, as it was a unanimous vote to tear it down. Today, you can find the remaining pieces of history in our local landfill. Over 100 years of history was gone within a half hour. We only needed 20% of the amount of people who voted at the last election to change this. The amount of people who voted at the last election was a sad 175-178 so we had plenty of signatures. A sad day for Salem. A sad day for West Virginia. A sad day for Veterans. Please send help. You can call and voice your opinions on this matter to City Manager, Ronnie Davis, at 304-782-1318. So much love for all you do and all you have done. We will continue our fight to save the history of our town to an unresponsive Council and undereducated Administration.
