Dear all

Happy NAIDOC Week!

NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year's theme of “Get up! Stand up! Show up!” encourages systemic change.

It is fitting to update my supporters during a powerful time for first nations people across the nation. We are moving together and it is only a matter of time we move united. Australia has never looked so colourful.

It is with great pleasure to announce, after 5 long years of relentless campaigning the NSW Government has agreed to fly the flag by the end of 2022. An extremely powerful ending that I am humbled to have achieved.

There are no words to describe how this makes me feel. Seeing the flag fly represents equality, respect and sets the precedence of how Australia NEEDS to unite as an equal nation.

I want to extend appreciation to each and every one of you who signed the petition, who donated to the cause and for fighting all forms of injustice. To individuals who have demonstrated all-round community involvement rather than specific activity or contribution.

I personally believe that each of us has a responsibility to contribute everything we can to bettering society. Thank you for showing up, for doing the work, and for changing lives.

Thank you for keeping me going. I promise to pay it forward.

I hope you all follow my next quest - exciting times ahead.

Thank you

Cheree Toka
