Hello - it has been a while my friends. I truly hope you and yours are doing well.. I am thankful to each one of you for supporting me all these years but the campaign still has a long way to go.
On Tuesday 26 May we reflected on National Sorry Day, this week we honor and celebrate National Reconciliation Week.
Today the Aboriginal flag flies proudly above the Sydney Harbour Bridge for the remainder of Reconciliation Week. On the 3rd June it will be taken down to gather dust once more. Gary Nunn has captured my feelings, my impatience and my hopes in this article you can below.
“I’ve heard every argument against it from them now,”
“First it was getting enough support to get a parliamentary debate, then it was flag protocol, then a technical issue and now a financial issue? I just thought: it’s evident you don’t care to show the respect to want to fly the flag.”
“If cost really is the issue, I’ll do a GoFundMe [fundraiser] and raise it myself”
Will you spend 5 minutes contacting the Minister, Andrew Constance https://www.nsw.gov.au/nsw-government/ministers/minister-for-transport-and-roads
Some key messages could be:
- A costly excuse doesn't wash with us. If you replace the NSW flag and keep the Aboriginal flag on the bridge, you will bypass costings.
- We want the 'report' stating "to construct a third flagpole would require major structural upgrades."
Thanks for your ongoing support and please send your response to me at reconcilewithourflag@gmail.com. Also let me know if you would like a copy of Andrew Constance's response.
Please, continue to share the petition this week to remind your family and friends that we should acknowledge Aboriginal culture every week.
Always was...Always will be, Aboriginal land.
