We are calling to action that you join us in supporting this petition to send a strong message to the Governor and the state legislature that its cultivation tax needs to be eliminated if there's any chance for our legacy small farmers to compete with the illicit market.

Help us stand up for small legacy farmers who have been cultivating cannabis and living a life of fear for decades. The taxes paid to run a compliant cannabis farm in California have no end, leaving some small farmers no choice but to close down and sell their family land that has been passed down for generations!

Did you know:

The state of California recently announced its inflation adjustment to increase the state’s Cannabis cultivation tax despite a massive deflation of Cannabis prices in the wholesale market.

As a result, farmers who sold flower products last year at $1400 a pound are now forced to sell their products at $300 per lb to pay their bills. Due to the state’s fixed dollar tax, those farmers will be asked to pay a 53% cultivation tax of $161.28; while the remaining leaf product which some farmers had to offload as low as $15 per pound will be charged $48 per pound for state taxes. At that price, they’re being subjected to a 320% tax rate! 

This tax increase is taking place at a time when the state is seeing a $31 BILLION budget SURPLUS, as craft Cannabis and other small businesses in our community struggle to survive. This cultivation tax is less than a quarter of all Cannabis Tax revenue collected by the state for this industry, yet it is having the most detrimental impact on local Cannabis farmers. This cultivation tax not only takes funds out of the local community but a market collapse also threatens local Cannabis excise tax revenues.
