Sidewalk from Boscobel to Little Stony Point: Online Petition
The Issue
Show your support by signing this petition advocating for a sidewalk connecting Boscobel and Little Stony Point.
The stretch of Route 9D between Little Stony Point and Boscobel is one of the most vital and heavily traveled corridors in our community. Every year, thousands of people — from local residents and tourists to families with strollers, individuals with disabilities, seniors, and hikers — attempt to navigate this section of road.
Yet without a sidewalk connecting Main Street to either destination, pedestrians are forced onto the narrow shoulder of a high-speed state road marked by blind curves and no buffer from traffic. This isn’t a minor inconvenience — it’s a life-threatening safety hazard.
Our initiative is not asking for luxury; it is asking for basic safety and equal access.
A sidewalk would:
- Connect the Dots: Link two of Cold Spring’s major public destinations — Little Stony Point and Boscobel — creating a safe, walkable path between nature, culture, and the village.
- Open Access: Make the area usable for everyone — including people with disabilities, seniors, and parents with young children — not just the able-bodied and daring.
- Support Community Life: Boscobel hosts a weekly farmers market that draws families, seniors, and visitors from across the region — many of whom would prefer to walk from the village if it were safe to do so.
- Prevent Tragedy: Every close call on this road is a reminder that we’re gambling with lives. We have an opportunity — and a responsibility — to act before someone is seriously hurt or killed.
This is not a matter of convenience. It's a matter of dignity, accessibility, and safety.
